POSTAL CLASSES OVERVIEW-STANDARD MAIL A

  • Mailing must contain at least 200 pieces or 50 lbs. addressed pieces.
  • To qualify for barcode rates, cards, letters and flats must be 100%DPBC (delivery point barricaded
  • Letter minimum is 3 ½” high and 5” long and at least .007” thick.  Maximum is 6 1/8” high and 11 1/2” long and less than ¼ “ thick.
  • Flats minimum is more than 6 1/8” high and 11 ½” long, or more than ¼” thick but less than ¾” thick.
  • Letter size BRE (business reply envelope) pieces provided as enclosures must be automation compatible and bear a FIM and correct barcode for the address to which the piece is returned.
  • Depending on quantity of mailing further discounts are available.
  • BMC, SCF discounts can mean postage savings even with the added cost of trucking.
  • When doing permit imprint there is an added cost for opening a permit.  There is a one-time application fee and an annual fee. This fee must be paid annually to keep the permit active.  Company permits must be active at Post Office of mailing.
  • Address placement must meet barcode standards if mailing at barcode rates.
  • When doing a selfmailer determine how many tabs are needed.
  • Open at bottom- 2 tabs 1” from each lead edge.
  • Open at top- 1 tab in center top.
  • No tab is needed for a flat size piece.
  • Refer to the DMM for other folds and amount of tabs needed.
  • When doing cr-rt mailings the piece must be barcode if it is letter size or piece must mail at flats rate.
